Mint Royale's 'Dancehall Places' Used In New Beer Ad Mint Royale's 'Dancehall Places' is being used for the new 'Bibop' beer advert which hit German TV today. If you've never been to Germany and you're not familiar with 'Bibop', it's a black beer made of a mixture of cola and beer that comes out of the Köstritzer brewery in Bad Köstritz (which is close to Gera in Thuringia). Now owned by the Bitburger Brauerei, the brewery was founded in 1543 and it is one of the oldest producers of Schwarzbier (black beer) in Germany. The total annual production of the brewery is nearly 1,000,000 hectolitres which we've worked out should keep our roster in beer for about eighteen months or so!

The 'Singin In The Rain' Dancing We've had many questions about the 'singin in the rain' advert. Most are about the music (obviously!) but there have been quite a lot about who did the dancing and how. Well, lets try and shed some light. The new dance moves were performed by some of the most talented hip-hop dancers of our time, J Walker, Crumbs and the incredible David 'Elsewhere' Bernal whose style is undeniable (see David by clicking here, he's the third on stage in the orange jumper).
Each of the dancers underwent over three hours of prosthetic makeup in order to look as much like Gene Kelly as possible. On top of that, each one of them performed with a semi-constrictive wet suit underneath their spiffy business attire. After all, they were filming in the rain. Of course, the viewer is never really aware that they are watching three street dancers in makeup thanks to the wonderful visual effects skills of the post-production crew, Moving Picture Company. With Alex Lovejoy as Visual Effects Supervisor and Christophe Allender using the amazing compositing software package, Discreet Inferno, the prosthetic makeup is not noticeable at all and was probably used mostly for reference inside the special effects house. The whole time we are watching the commercial, it is Gene Kelly's face we are staring at. It is difficult to think otherwise.
The dance sequence is then greatly enhanced by the fantastic remix of Singin' in the Rain although I'm bound to say that.

The Remixes On Mint Royale's 'Wait for You' 'see you in the morning' is already being touted as 'An epic album' by Mixmag and Mint Royale's first single from it, 'wait for you', is due for release on the 11th of April 2005 on 12" Single and Download. The release will include four great versions, 'wait for you', a 'Bastian' remix, 'National Forest' remix and 'Waiting In The Rain'.
Full time Mint Royale vocalist, Steven Wren, details the trials of modern life over a backing of nagging guitar hooks and tough clubby drums. As well as picking up plays in the UK (Radio1, XFM, 6Music) 'wait for you' is being played on radio stations worldwide and the video is currently on MTV Dance.
The package comes with blinding 'Bastian' and 'National Forest' remixes of the original which will be available on the 12" and as downloads from www.mint-royale.com and other download sites.

Music for the VW Golf advert by Mint Royale Between rehearsals for their forthcoming live dates, Mint Royale have completed the music for the new worldwide Volkswagen Golf advert which starts today.
The advert takes one of the most famous classic Hollywood movie scenes (Singin' In The Rain) and gives it a very modern twist with the help of some clever computer effects and great Music. Gene Kelly's memorable dance sequence in the movie has been updated so that the star now appears to be Breakdancin' In The Rain and it's all thanks to the new Golf GTi advert. Having received permission from the Gene Kelly Foundation, the makers of the advert set about transforming the original scene. For the backdrop to remain the same, replica streets were built, and the ad makers used break dancers and body poppers to create the moves and follow the same route Kelly takes in the original 1952 film. Gene Kelly's face was then superimposed and a new remixed soundtrack by Mint Royale was added.
A Volkswagen spokeswoman said: "The idea behind the commercial is all about the fact that the new Golf GTI is the original Mk I, but updated for 2005. The latest Golf is seen as a classic and iconic car and we really wanted to show that in a very unusual and memorable way."
Neil from Mint Royale said: "When I was approached to do the advert it seemed like a great idea to be able to take such a classic song and give it the Mint Royale treatment".
